A traffic stop early this morning led to the arrest of a local man after officers discovered suspected narcotics, stolen property, and stolen firearms in a U-Haul box truck he was driving.

On Friday, April 10, at approximately 1:50 a.m., a Cheyenne Police Officer was patrolling near East 10th Street and Converse Avenue when a U-Haul truck pulled over to park without using a turn signal. The officer initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, later identified as Camden Girone, 25, of Cheyenne.

While speaking with Girone, the officer observed signs of narcotics use. A Cheyenne Police K9 was deployed and alerted to the odor of a controlled substance in the truck.

Officers searched the U-Haul and located two firearms, electronic devices, tools, bolt cutters, a grinder, and containers holding a substance believed to be methamphetamine. During the search, officers also found broken locks in Girone’s back pocket. He later told officers that he had broken into two storage units and took several items, including the firearms.

Girone was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Jail for aggravated burglary, felony theft, and possession of a controlled substance. At the time of his arrest, he was out on bond for a prior controlled substance charge.

Detectives are working to determine if the storage unit burglaries are connected to other local incidents. This case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
