The Cheyenne Police Department’s (CPD) Community Action Team recently conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old man, Michael Johnston, for promotion of prostitution.
During the operation, undercover detectives visited a website known for solicitation and prostitution. They exchanged messages with Johnston, who arranged a sexual act with a woman at a local hotel. When Johnston and the woman arrived at the hotel, our detectives were waiting. Both individuals were taken into police custody.
Johnston was arrested for felony promotion of prostitution and booked into the Laramie County Jail. The woman was connected to the CPD’s Victims Assistance division for support services.
Operations like this are critical for disrupting trafficking and holding offenders accountable. This work helps protect vulnerable victims and prevents others from being exploited.
The CPD’s Community Action Team is responsible for investigating cases that require specialized police work and routinely conducts human trafficking, drug trafficking, and organized crime investigations. It is the CPD’s primary objective when investigating crimes related to the commercial sex industry to identify and recover victims of human trafficking.
