On Wednesday, October 15 at approximately 4:25 p.m. Cheyenne Police Officers were dispatched to a crash involving a motorcycle near the intersection of East Lincolnway and Western Way.

The rider, a 69-year-old male, sustained life-threatening injuries at the scene and was later pronounced deceased at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center. The Laramie County Coroner will identify the victim and notify the next of kin.

Preliminary details show the collision occurred as the driver of a white pickup truck, Oliver Birt, 29 years old, from Cheyenne, was attempting to make a left turn onto Western Way. While making the turn, the truck collided with a blue Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling down Lincolnway from the opposite direction.

Birt was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Jail for aggravated vehicular homicide – driving under the influence, and failure to yield while turning left.

Due to the severity of the crash, the Cheyenne Police Department’s Major Crash Unit responded to take over the investigation.
