Field Training Officers (FTO)
Field Training Officers (FTO) are specially trained officers who train new officers who have just graduated from the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. A new recruit is paired with an FTO for on the job training. FTOs use the San Jose model of training, which is a five phase program lasting fourteen weeks. FTOs educate, train, and mentor new officers in order to produce highly trained and positively motivated officers. An FTO will work one-on-one with a newly hired officer and train the new recruit in various areas of law enforcement. At the end of the Field Training Officer Program a new recruit will be ready to work as a solo officer.
