The Cheyenne Police Bicycle unit consists of officers and Sergeants. These "one-to-one" bike officers have bike racks on their patrol vehicles, allowing them to take their assigned bike wherever they drive and deploy their bike at short notice. To be on the bicycle unit officers have to complete a minimum of 32 hours of training, including maintenance and patrol techniques.
The bicycle unit allows officers to ride around in congested areas and easily interact with community members. Officers on bikes have a lower profile and have the maneuverability and the ability to cross terrain and areas not accessible by car. The bikes are great to use in crowds and in the downtown area, especially during the busy summer months. The bike unit regularly works special events such as Frontier Days, Superday, and Fourth of July fireworks.
