Interacting with Those Suffering From Mental Illness

Where: Cheyenne Public Safety Center, 415 West 18th Street

When: October 5th, 2016, 5:30 p.m.

Because of Cheyenne’s location on the Transcontinental Rail Line and at the intersection of two major interstates, it sees an annual influx of transients passing through town on their way to other places. Some remain for indefinite periods. Studies show that many homeless people are homeless because they suffer from mental illness and substance abuse issues, and many are military veterans. Merchants located near the rail line and main travel corridors can expect to interact with people suffering from these conditions.

The Cheyenne Police Department will be hosting a class discussing various facts relating to mental illness and provide tips for interacting with people who may be suffering from mental health issues and substance abuse.
