Cheyenne Police Department Recruitment Opportunities

Applications and Testing
Next testing dates:

January 23 & 24, 2014

City Application and Police Department Application Packets must be printed, completed, signed and on file with Human Resources prior to physical assessment. Applications sent to the Police Department will not be accepted. See application packet for additional deadlines and information.  Testing process will be Thurs/Fri January 23 & 24.

Deadline for application: 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 21st.

Written Exam - $35 (cash only) Valid Picture ID required. The exam can be taken any time prior to January 23rd, however, you need to contact Wyoming Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) to schedule an appointment (307)777-6790. To take the exam on the morning of January 23rd contact the Cheyenne Police Department, (307)637-6554. Study hints.

A copy of exam results must be on file with Human Resources prior to taking the Physical Assessment. If testing at the Kiwanis House (4603 Lions Park Drive) on the 23rd, your exam scores will be taken to HR by the CPD.  Scores are good for a 12 month period.

Deadline for written exam:  9:00 AM Thursday, January 23rd.

Out of town applicants – one Optional exam - scheduled at the *Kiwanis Community House, Thursday, January 23rd, 8:30 AM. Registration will take place from 8:30 – 9:00 AM, w/ testing starting promptly at 9:00 AM. Valid Picture ID required; call CPD to make an appointment – (307) 637-6554.

Physical Assessment
For applicants successfully completing the written exam, the physical assessment will be at 3:00 PM Thursday, January 23rd at the Laramie County Community College (LCCC) gym.  Valid Picture ID required. Assessment consists of SUs in 1 minute, PUs in 1 minute and 1.5 mile run, age/gender based. PT Standards can be viewed here. 

Oral Board
For applicants successfully completing the written exam and PT assessment, oral boards will be scheduled at the Cheyenne Police Department (map) for Friday January 24th

Test Results
Written exam, PT Assessment and Oral Board scores are combined and averaged with preference points then added to calculate final test results.  The Eligibility Registry will be available online at www.cheyennepd.org and posted on the front door of the Cheyenne Police Department.

  • Background investigation
  • Chief's Interview
  • Polygraph
  • Psychological Evaluation
  • Medical Evaluation
  • Drug Screen
