Welcome to the Cheyenne Police Departments web site. Here you will find links and information that will show you the many great features of our department.

If you are interested in law enforcement as an employment opportunity, I encourage you to complete our online application. Cheyenne is a vibrant, pro-growth community. We have a comprehensive benefit package along with take home vehicles and numerous paid training classes designed to enhance your professional knowledge. Our goal is to give you every possible growth opportunity in a supportive environment.

Thank you for visiting our site. Please contact us via email, fax, or phone if we may assist you in any way.

Cheyenne, WY, is a community of nearly 60,000, located on the High Plains East of the Rocky Mountains. The capital city, Cheyenne is also home to the famous Cheyenne Frontier Days, the worlds largest outdoor rodeo. Wyoming has NO state income tax and low property tax rates. It is situated in southeastern Wyoming, approx. 100 miles north of Denver, Colorado. Laramie County Community College is in town, and the University of Wyoming is a 45 minute drive to the west, in Laramie.

The Cheyenne Police Department is a progressive agency of 105 sworn officers and 32 civilians. The Police Department works to serve the community with many innovative programs, such as a Citizens Police Academy.  In this program, citizens attend a 13-week class, taught by officers from the Department, one night a week to get an overview of the Police Department operations and training.

The Department also has many specialized units in which officers can participate. These include mounted patrols, both horse and mountain bike, a SWAT Team, a Hostage Negotiation Unit, a Special Enforcement Unit focusing on drug activity, a K-9 Unit, Arson and Explosives Investigative Unit, School Resource Officers and a Juvenile Crime Unit. Additionally there are civilian support services to include communications and records divisions, a Crime Lab, and a Victims Assistance Program.

Entry pay for a patrol officer is $3473.59 per month; additional benefits include medical, dental, and life insurance. After completion of a field training program, officers are encouraged to participate in the one-to-one take home car plan. The Cheyenne Police Department has a 20 year retirement plan for sworn personnel.  A lateral entry pay program is also in place.
